Heim Data Systems Inc. in Belmar, N.J., is offering the GSR “DE” series of data recorders with removable drives for high-security missions involving the acquisition of sensitive data. For ground-based telemetry, satellite downlink, and test-cell recording, the GSR “DE” series features all-digital recording, high data integrity, flexible signal interfacing, and removable media. The device is a rack-mounting, 256-megabit-per-second digital recorder capable of simultaneously acquiring several streams of data from analog, digital, communications, video, and avionics bus sources. Once the data is acquired, it is recorded to storage media for later retrieval and analysis. Data retrieval can be via real-time construction of original signal sources or by direct high-speed transfer of digital data to the computing platform over popular bus and network interfaces. Recorded media comes in an easily removable plug-in carrier. The carrier mates with a commercially available receiver in the GSR, which allows physical removal of sensitive data at the completion of a secure mission and leaves the GSR free of nonvolatile signal-data memory. In addition to safe storage, the removable drives allow several secure and nonsecure missions to be run on the same GSR by dedicating separate record media carriers to each mission. The installation of compatible drive receivers in the user’s analysis computer also provides a simple and secure means of rapid upload or download of large volumes of mission data to and from the GSR by the physical transfer of drive carriers.
