Decision makers at the U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane in Crane, Ind., sought a solution to improve the accuracy and precision in the fleet’s field operations. They settled on enhanced targeting sight (ETS) infrared imaging systems from FLIR Systems Inc. in Portland, Ore.
An order valued at $6.7 million for the ETS systems is the first production order under an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. Navy valued at approximately $35 million. Future orders under the contract are subject to available funding.
The FLIR systems are based on the company’s rugged SeeSpot III thermal imager, designed to aid operators in identifying targets and viewing laser designators simultaneously. The ETS increases the accuracy of laser designators by enabling operators to view the laser spot within the target scene, in both day and night battlefield environments and in degraded weather conditions.
Work on the order will be performed at FLIR’s production facility in North Billerica, Mass., with deliveries to commence immediately. For more information, visit www.flir.com.
