Omnetics Connector Corp. in Minneapolis is offering 3-D solid models, which are created into STEP Files (.stp) made for insertion and imported into a variety of computer-aided design programs, such as ProE, Solidworks, and Inventor. Engineers and designers generally use these files to help design interconnects within particular applications. By having models available in the design stage, users do not have to create them, thus saving time and effort. It will also decrease “guessing” errors because the 3-D models are created to size with all available termination options. Once imported, users can move and manipulate them within the design and position them where needed to check for size constraints, and can take measurements, see size relations, and lay out boards based on the footprints.
