Engineers at Akrion and their Goldfinger Technologies subsidiary needed a replacement RF amplifier system for an ultrasonic system. They found a solution with AR Worldwide Modular RF in Bothell, Wash.

The product was a customized design. First, the customer tested an amplifier brick running class-A bias to meet a low harmonic specification. Then designers created the custom rack enclosure and interfaces. A customer-specified directional coupler along with specific gating logic levels were used to turn the amplifier down to a “standby mode” to conserve current and reduce the heat given off within the OEM rack. The final amplifier system comprises a custom cabinet, AC power supply, the HPA (a modified KMA2040 amplifier - 200-watts CW, 0.5-40 MHz), and a custom directional coupler.

Another company created the associated signal source and control system. Akrion provides single-wafer and batch immersion wet processing solutions. For more information, see www.ar-worldwide.com.
