Executives at AEgis Technologies in Huntsville, Ala., needed a flexible tool to help develop the company’s latest product offering.

They chose GL Studio from Distributed Simulation Technology Inc. (DiSTI) in Orlando, Fla., as the human-machine interface (HMI) development tool for the BattleStorm product.

BattleStorm provides simulation systems designers with a framework on which users can integrate ground, air, infantry, and other training environments into one platform.

Most recently, AEgis used GL Studio with BattleStorm to create the customized control panels for Northrop Grumman’s Directed Energy Weapons System Trainer. GL Studio enabled AEgis’s programmers and developers to build the high-fidelity interactive graphical controls Northrop required for the trainer-a solid-state laser system mounted on a combat vehicle used by U.S. ground forces. In fact, GL Studio played a key role in fulfilling the contract with Northrop Grumman, says David King, director of simulation development for AEgis Technology Group.

“DiSTI went the extra mile, equipping us with exactly what we needed to demonstrate the GL Studio development environment to Northrop,” King says. “We needed a tool that would work as advertised, along with a responsive software support team. GL Studio exceeded our expectations and helped us deliver the trainer on time and under budget.”
