VPT Inc. in Blacksburg, Va., is offering a point-of-load converter to its DVPL series. The DVPL0510S is a nonisolated, synchronous, buck-regulated converter that steps down the voltage at the point of end use. Slightly larger than one square inch, the DVPL0510S delivers as much as 10 amps (33 Watts) of high current for a low-voltage output of 0.8 to 3.4 volts, with up to 96 percent efficiency. The DVPL0510S features military-grade reliability, 5-volt input, and power density of 100 watts per cubic inch. The devices operate over the full military temperature range of -55 to 125 degrees Celsius with no power derating, VPT officials say. Other aspects of the DVPL0510S include precision projection-welded hermetic package, output voltage sequencing and tracking, operation into a prebiased output, output inhibit control, low output noise, overcurrent and short-circuit protection, MIL-STD-461C and MIL-STD-461D EMC compliance when used with VPT DC-DC converters and EMI filters, optional additional environmental screening, and MIL-PRF-38534 element evaluated components. The DVPL0510S is for low-voltage point-of-load applications such as FPGAs, digital ICs, and ASICs. Several DVPL0510S modules can work with VPT’s DC-DC converters in a power-distribution system.
