NASA selects Green Hills Software for space-telecommunications radio-system prototype

Engineers at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Glenn Research Center in Cleveland sought a software platform to aid in the rapid design, development, and modification of its next-generation space-telecommunications radio-system (STRS) architecture.

Engineers at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Glenn Research Center in Cleveland sought a software platform to aid in the rapid design, development, and modification of its next-generation space-telecommunications radio-system (STRS) architecture. In doing so, they turned to maker of device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS) Green Hills Software Inc. in Santa Barbara, Calif.

NASA engineers are employing the Green Hills platform for software-defined radio (SDR) with Spectrum Signal’s flexCommTM SDR-4000 reconfigurable, multifunction communications platform.

Green Hills’ SDR platform for NASA includes the Integrity RTOS, advanced dual-mode IPv4 networking stack support, and advanced waveform design and development tools.

SDR and STRS technologies provide NASA the ability to support advanced space- and ground-based communications operations. The technologies also can reduce the cost of future missions through the consolidation of legacy radio equipment by supporting current and future radio links from one radio platform.
