Diversified Technology introduces ATCA node with second-generation AMD Opteron processor

Diversified Technology Inc. in Ridgeland, Miss., is offering the ATC6231 node board based on the dual-core second-generation AMD Opteron microprocessor. The board is a PICMG 3.1-compliant processor blade for Internet IP-based applications, soft switches, media gateways, and other communications applications. The board “allows your won hardware-based innovation through the use of FPGAs [field-programmable gate arrays] connected to the node application processor,” says Joe McDevitt, vice president of technical marketing at Diversified Technology. The board is designed around the PICMG 3.0 AdvancedTCA specification for hardware platforms in carrier-grade networks with planned compliance to CP-TA Revision 1.0 ICD and TPM, company officials say. The board has 2 megabytes of L2 cache and support for as much as 8 gigabytes of memory per processor interface. It uses a HyperTransport technology link interface, Broadcom HT2100 and HT1000 server-class-chip, and 2.5-inch SAS micro hard drive for storage.
