Executives at Aero Simulation Inc. (ASI) in Tampa, Fla., tasked with updating the U.S. Navy’s landing signal officer trainer (LSOT), partnered with Quantum3D Inc., a provider of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), open-architecture, real-time 3D visual computing solutions based in San Jose, Calif.

ASI management selected the Quantum3D IDX 3000 system, Facets Models, and related database environments to aid in the system upgrade of the LSOT. The LSOT provides military personnel with a controlled environment for hands-on LSO training, which includes practicing coordination procedures, recovering combat aircraft aboard an aircraft carrier, handling various emergency conditions. The simulator, designed to prepare landing signal officers for operational duty, now takes advantage of Quantum3D’s IDX 3000, models, and special effects.

The IDX 3000 offers Image Generator features, such as compatibility with visual simulation standards, technology insertion capabilities, and high image quality, visual acuity, and performance. The LSOT benefits from enhanced realism through Quantum3D’s Facets Models, 3D content with multiple levels of detail realistic textures. The company’s Facets collection includes models of aircraft, automobiles, armored vehicles, ships, missiles, and so on.
