Engineers at Aero Vodochody a.s. in Odolena Voda, Czech Republic, sought high-quality displays for integration into the L-159 trainer fleet of the Czech Air Force.

They found the optimal solution at Barco in Kortrijk, Belgium. Barco will deliver 5 x 4-inch cockpit head down displays (CHDDs) according to a contract that is part of a conversion program aimed at rebuilding four single-seat L-159s into two-seat trainer versions.

For this modification project, Aero engineers selected Barco’s CHDDs for their excellent quality and readability in bright and dark ambient conditions. Each modified L-159 trainer will use two Barco displays as repeaters of the front position’s primary flight display and head up display.

The AERO L-159 advanced multi-role light combat and training aircraft, based on the airframe design and aerodynamic configuration of the L-39 Albatros and L-59 family of jet trainers, is deployable such operational roles as close air support, tactical reconnaissance, air defense, counter insurgency, border patrol, anti-ship missions, and weapons training.
