The staff of Military & Aerospace Electronics is setting a course for the future that involves improvements to our print magazine, to our conference and trade show, and to our digital offerings such as electronic newsletters, Webcasts, and our vibrant, interactive site on the World Wide Web.

We are making these changes to stay on the cutting edge of the technologies and markets that are of crucial importance to our core audience-engineers, engineering managers, and program managers who serve the electronics and electro-optics industries that support military, space, and commercial aviation applications.

Changes begin with the tagline of Military & Aerospace Electronics magazine. A tagline essentially is the mission statement of the magazine, or its essence boiled down to a succinct phrase. Our tagline now is “Driving innovation for defense applications,” which takes effect with this issue. Military & Aerospace Electronics always has been a leader in our industry, and our new tagline makes that clear.

In addition, the new tagline re-emphasizes the heart of our magazine-the military forces of the world. Certainly our magazine has a stake in manned and unmanned space programs, as well as in commercial airliner and air traffic control technologies, and we intend to continue our coverage of these areas, but our primary emphasis is on defense.

We understand that space and commercial aviation have enormous and growing importance in our fast-moving, increasingly digital world. Airliners, after all, are one of the prime movers in the global economy. Orbiting satellites are one of the biggest distributors of the streams of digital information on which we all rely every day.

Yet it is to defense forces where we must give the majority of our attention. It’s undeniable that the world is getting more dangerous, not less. Adversaries of the United States and its allies are serious, and are getting more so all the time.

It will take a determined and sustained effort on the parts of the designers and users of surveillance systems, command-and-control, communications, embedded computing, high-speed networking, systems integration, sensors, and many other technologies to keep us safe in the months and years ahead.

Perhaps the most fundamental improvement to the Military & Aerospace Electronics franchise is our emphasis on digital distribution of our editorial content. Not only is the material from our print magazine online, but so is content from our monthly technology Webcasts, our weekly electronic newsletter, our annual buyers guide, and of course our substantial site on the World Wide Web at www.milaero.com.

In the future we plan to add e-newsletters for targeted and focused segments of our audience, enhance the volume and topics of our informational Webcasts, add audio and video to our Website and other digital offerings, and offer enhanced database searches and access to partner Websites.

Digital information content is the wave of the future, and Military & Aerospace Electronics is staying on the leading edge.

Another important improvement involves our revamped and renamed conference and trade show. Starting next year we offer the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum, which will be March 11 and 12, 2008, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego (see related story on page 4).

The staff of Military & Aerospace Electronics has assembled a high-powered advisory board for the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum that will draw from all segments of our industry to present an information-packed and interactive conference that will bring up the industry’s most important topics for comment and discussion.

Look for more exciting developments for the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum in the weeks and months ahead, and make sure to mark March 11 and 12, 2008, on your calendars.

Our industry is one of the most dynamic, innovative, and fast-moving around, and Military & Aerospace Electronics is maintaining its leadership role.
