Australian Navy officials needed navigation systems, incorporating advanced hardware and software, for its submarine fleet. They found the optimal system for their requirements at OSI Geospatial Inc.’s International Systems Operations in Ottawa.

OSI Geospatial won a contract award estimated at approximately $2 million to provide the Australian Navy with its Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System (ECPINS) submarine navigation system. Under the terms of the contract, OSI will provide six navigation systems and a software upgrade to be incorporated into the Australian navy’s Collins-class submarines.

The ECPINS, an electronic chart navigation system for military and commercial customers, helps reduce the risk of navigation-related incidents by giving crews a precise, real-time display of their position, course, and speed, against a background of fixed obstacles and other navigational hazards. It is an International Maritime Organization (IMO) approved Electronic Chart Display Integrated System (ECDIS).
