Officials at the Colombian Ministry of Defense wanted state-of-the-art surveillance systems for counter-narcotic and counter-terror missions within the Republic of Colombia. They found their solution at FLIR Systems Inc. in Portland, Ore.

FLIR won a $6.7 million order to deliver its Star SAFIRE HD stabilized, multi-sensor surveillance systems, for installation on Columbia’s fixed-wing surveillance platforms.

FLIR not only has delivered more than 70 airborne sensor systems to the Colombian Ministry of Defense, but also has maintained an active and equipped service and completion center in Bogotá. Company engineers have expanded the capabilities of the center, which provides support for all regional users of FLIR’s thermal imaging equipment.

Work on the contract is being performed at FLIR’s facility in Portland, Ore. Deliveries are expected to be completed within 12 months.
