NASHUA, N.H.–Earlier this year, PennWell acquired Avionics Expo Limited, which owns the well-known Avionics conference and exhibition, that is held each year in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Building on that successful event, this month we launched the Avionics Intelligence Web site (www.avionics-intelligence.com) and electronic newsletter, to provide in-depth online coverage of the commercial and military avionics industry.

I believe the future of our medium is not in the print but in the digital space. We already set the pace online daily in the defense electronics industry with Military & Aerospace Electronics and its large digital product portfolio.

Although we are starting with a smaller digital footprint than Military & Aerospace Electronics, you can expect similar cutting-edge coverage from Avionics Intelligence. Our new Web site delivers avionics information through a news section, a section on features and analysis from our staff and the avionics industry, as well as a segment detailing the latest products from avionics suppliers.

Through those sections, Avionics Intelligence will cover all the hottest issues facing avionics suppliers and integrators worldwide, such as obsolescence challenges in commercial and military aircraft modernizations and retrofits, air traffic control upgrades, electronic flight bag design, runway incursion, avionics for spacecraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, certification for FAA hardware and software standards, test and measurement of avionics systems, etc.

The Avionics Intelligence bi-monthly e-newsletter will be electronically delivered to 40,000 subscribers. It will feature the top stories, products, features, industry opinion, and analysis from the Avionics Intelligence Web site.

The readership of Avionics Intelligence consists of program and project managers, engineering managers, engineers, and commercial and military-aerospace executives who are involved in avionics integration, manufacture design, and technology standards development.

I also want to announce the first global expansion of the Avionics exposition with Avionics U.S.A., scheduled to run concurrently with the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum in San Diego at the San Diego convention center on June 1 and 2, 2009. The new event offers two separate conferences and a shared exhibit floor. This shared environment will allow the senior-level attendees to walk the entire show floor and mingle with the executives attending each event.

Avionics U.S.A. conference content will be modeled after the Amsterdam event, which was established in 2003 and has grown 30 to 50 percent each year.

I attended the Amsterdam event this year and found it to have strong content, relevant and expert speakers, and healthy floor traffic during the exhibition. It was the first time I had attended in two years and was impressed with its growth.

PennWell has retained the show’s founder, Adrian Broadbent, as a consultant and he is assisting us in conference development for Avionics 2009 and offering sage council on our launch of Avionics U.S.A.

The European flagship event is being held once again on March 11 and 12, 2009 at the Passenger Air Terminal in Amsterdam. We are no longer accepting conference submissions, but there are still exhibit and sponsorship opportunities available. Please contact Gareth Watkins, at 44 (0) 1992 656 672 or [email protected] to find out more. The event’s Web site is www.avionics-event.com.

For speaking opportunities at Avionics U.S.A., contact our conference coordinator, Nuala Ferdinand, at [email protected].
