The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) needed mobile, man-wearable, night-vision systems for its military personnel. They gained their solution from ITT Corp.’s Night Vision business in Roanoke, Va.

ITT Night Vision won a $23 million contract from the MoD to supply its Head-Mounted Night Vision Systems (HMNVS). The HMNVS, the MoD variant of the AN/PVS-14, is a lightweight, single-battery monocular unit designed to offer enhanced mobility and reliability to soldiers during ground-based operations. The HMNVS is used by the U.S. military, allied military forces, and homeland-security agencies.

The Roanoke-based facility will equip the U.K. military with the HMNVS, whereas ITT Defence Ltd. personnel in Basingstoke, U.K., will provide in-country maintenance support.
