Officials at the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command recognized a strong need for advanced technologies capable of thwarting improvised explosive devices (IEDs). For a vehicle-based solution, they turned to ITT Corp. in White Plains, N.Y.
ITT won a follow-on, fixed-price award, valued up to $1 billion, from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command. According to the contract, the company will build and deliver up to 15,000 CREW 2.1 Vehicle Receiver Jammers (CVRJs), as well as spares and related equipment.
This order for CREW vehicle-mounted systems is part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s CVRJ program, designed to prevent the detonation of radio-controlled IEDs. The counter-IED devices will be mounted on a variety of armored vehicles and other military transport equipment, and deployed to current military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
