Officials working for the State of Maryland sought to improve statewide crisis-management capabilities. In doing so, they turned to James Lee Witt Associates (JLWA), the Crisis Management and Preparedness Services unit of GlobalOptions Group Inc. in New York.

State officials awarded a contract to GlobalOptions Group, a risk-management consultant, to deliver technical expertise for the enhancement of emergency management operations in the State of Maryland.

“We have chosen to hire James Lee Witt Associates to provide assistance and an independent, expert assessment of our emergency preparedness processes and procedures to ensure that all our systems, structures, and plans are as efficient and effective as possible for the safety of our citizens if ever disaster strikes,” says Martin O’Malley, governor of Maryland.

GlobalOptions professionals are providing Maryland officials with a comprehensive review to update and modify the state’s emergency management and response system. They are also working with the Office of the Governor, the Homeland Security Advisor, and appropriate state agencies to examine the organizational structure of emergency management at the state level. Further, they are offering recommendations for improvement based on industry and government best practices.

“It is encouraging to see a state whose government is making the important decision to take a proactive approach to emergency management in order to ensure public safety, infrastructure reliability, and business and government continuity during times of emergency,” says James Lee Witt, head of GlobalOptions Crisis Management and Preparedness Services.
