Officials at CISCEA, an aeronautical command center and part of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense in Sao Paulo, sought a technology partner to upgrade the country’s PAR-2000 precision approach radar systems.

They found a partner in ITT Corp. in White Plains, N.Y., issuing the company a sole source contract worth $9.4 million. The contract award includes spare parts, training, and assistance with operations and technical support.

The PAR-2000 modernization program is intended to expand the supportability of the radar system deployed at military airfields throughout Brazil.

Work will be accomplished at ITT’s Radar Systems–Gilfillan facility in Van Nuys, Calif. Updates will take place at the original Brazilian PAR radar this year and will conclude in approximately five years.
