Officials at the Colombian Ministry of Defense needed a sensor system capable of providing high-resolution imagery from a position onboard air force helicopters. They found their solution at FLIR Systems Inc. of Portland, Ore.

FLIR Systems won a $13 million order from the Colombian Ministry of Defense for FLIR’s Star SAFIRE HD stabilized, multisensor systems. Colombian Air Force personnel will use the FLIR Systems units onboard helicopters during national security and counter-narcotic missions.

The Star SAFIRE third-generation system produces high-definition digital images through imaging sensors housed in an environmentally rugged design. According to the contract, FLIR Systems engineers will provide customer support, training, and integration services by way of FLIR’s licensed maintenance facility in Bogota, Colombia.

Work will be at FLIR’s facility in Portland, Ore., for delivery during the second half of 2008. For additional information, visit FLIR Systems online at www.flir.com.
