U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials needed an integrated surveillance system to extend the eyes of CBP agents and to support securing U.S. borders. Border patrol agents found the needed surveillance technology at Telephonics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corp. in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Engineers at the Telephonics Electronic Systems Division are providing technology to the Mobile Surveillance System (MSS), which will be used in CBP’s SBInet program to increase the border patrol areas of coverage.
“It takes the proper mix of three elements—technology, tactical infrastructure, and personnel—to secure the nation’s borders,” Harvey Blau, company chairman, states. Company personnel have supported CBP during the development phase of the MSS platform.
