Barco to supply control display unit avionics for C-27J joint cargo aircraft

Engineers at L-3 Communications Integrated Systems in Waco, Texas, needed control display systems for their work on the C-27J joint cargo aircraft (JCA). They found their solution with Barco, an avionics display provider in Duluth, Ga. L-3 Communications chose Barco’s control display units based on the company’s modular open architecture and its previous experience with the C-27J. Barco’s CDMS-3000 has a modular, open MOSArt architecture, and backward compatibility with equipment on the C-27J and C-130J fleets. Seventy-eight aircraft to be ordered will sport Barco’s CDMS-3000 control display unit. The CDMS-3000 features a 3-by-4-inch, active-matrix liquid crystal display panel with VGA resolution, high brightness, and contrast in a compact, lightweight, energy-efficient unit. U.S. Army officials plan to replace the organization’s aging C-12 Hurons, C-23 Sherpas, and C-26 Metroliners with the JCA.
