Vetronics designers at BAE Systems required rugged, high-quality displays for the manned ground vehicles in the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. They found such a solution at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

BAE Systems executives issued an $8 million contract to Rockwell Collins engineers to deliver the Common Crew Station Display. The rugged, high-resolution, 17-inch diagonal, flat-panel display will serve as the primary information monitor for the family of combat ground vehicles fielded as part of FCS.

The flat-screen Common Crew Station Display will be used by soldiers to view maps, video, and other information. Its touch screen and optional bezel buttons help facilitate user input and control.

Boeing and partner Science Applications International Corp. function as the lead systems integrator (LSI) for the FCS program, managing a team of more than 500 partners and suppliers.

“These displays will provide our soldiers with enhanced situational awareness that will increase safety and effectiveness,” says Bruce King, vice president and general manager of surface solutions for Rockwell Collins.
