Engineers at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth, Texas, needed the outer-wing box assembly on the P-3 Orion marine patrol aircraft to be refurbished for their work on the P-3 service life extension program.
They found a partner in Northstar Network Ltd., Northstar Electronics Inc.’s wholly owned subsidiary in Vancouver, B.C. Northstar won a contract, called a Master Purchase Order (MPO), worth $6.3 million, covering 48 aircraft, and extending to the year 2012.
Northstar Network personnel are manufacturing components for the production service life-extension kits for this Lockheed Martin program. The kits will add more than 15,000 flying hours to each aircraft, representing 15 to 20 additional years of service for the P-3 maritime patrol and reconnaissance resource, says a representative.
“The project is under a tight production and delivery schedule and we are meeting the challenges with expanded support and subcontractor management,” says Terry McLeod, Northstar’s vice president of development and planning. “Steadfast performance on this program has the potential to open opportunities from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics for additional aircraft requiring the same life-extension upgrades.”
