First responders nationwide in need of a technology to help them see in dim light and darkness sought a portable, night-vision device. They found their solution in the night-vision division of ITT Corp. in Roanoke, Va.

ITT has received an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide its PVS-14 night vision kits to first responders as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program. The $1.1 million contract award includes a second option year, which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to $2.2 million.

ITT’s PVS-14 night-vision monoculars employ Pinnacle image intensifier tubes to provide improved operation when switching from low-light to high-light areas. The Generation 3 device enables the user to adjust the gain control in varying light conditions.

Able to be handheld, head-mounted, weapon-mounted, or adapted to a camera or camcorder tool, the PVS-14 is designed for any responder in the field in low-light conditions—from law enforcement officers on a routine foot patrol to multiagency search-and-rescue or tactical teams on a mission.
