Murata Power Solutions in Mansfield, Mass., is introducing the Datel ACA5-20RM series of high current, true-rms responding AC ammeters designed to interface directly with an external 5-amp output current transformer (CT) for military test and measurement. The Datel ACA5-20RM series covers input ranges from 100 to 500 amps for military electronic equipment that uses switching power supplies, such as inverters and generators, battery chargers, power distribution units, and AC-DC power supplies. True-rms responding ammeters are for switching power supply applications where input currents are typically distorted and do not resemble the universally recognized sine-wave shape. The ACA5-20RM family scales and displays the output of 5-amp donut-style current transformers (CTs). The series covers three ranges: 100, 200, and 500 amps. A choice of 85 to 140 volts AC or 170 to 264 volts (at 47 to 63Hz) operating supply voltages is offered for each range. Maximum power consumption is less than 50 milliamps and operating temperature range is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius. Crest factors (the ratio of peak current to rms current) for the ACA5-20RM series are as high as five and all models specify 2000 volts isolation between the AC power source and the external 5-amp CT. The device uses a single-board construction, has a built-in low-burden toroid sensor, and a bright red LED display with 9.4-millimeter characters.
