Mercury to enhance expertise in digital RF and information technology with KOR Electronics acquisition

CHELMSFORD, Mass., 4 Jan. 2012. Executives at Mercury Computer Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:MRCY) in Chelmsford, Mass., are boosting their company's expertise in digital RF and information technology with their acquisition of KOR Electronics in Cypress, Calif., and its wholly owned subsidiary, Paragon Dynamics Inc. in Aurora, Colo. Mercury, which specializes in high-end embedded computing technology with an emphasis on multi-intelligence and sensor-fusion systems, completed its acquisition of KOR Paragon Dynamics on 30 Dec. in an all-cash deal, Mercury officials say. No dollar amount of the acquisition was released.

Navy chooses Sechan to manufacture data computers for CEC radar sensor-fusion air-defense system

WASHINGTON, 21 Dec. 2011. U.S. Navy leaders needed an electronics contract manufacturing specialist to build signal data processor-Sierra (SDP-S) systems for the Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) program, which blends radar information from several different Navy systems to create one common air defense tactical display, or "air picture," which is based on all sensor data available. They found their solution from Sechan Electronics Inc., Lititz, Pa. Officials of U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington awarded Sechan a $64.2 million contract Monday to manufacture (SDP-S) production units and engineering support services for the CEC program.

API Technologies gains $1.4 million order for precision position sensors

ORLANDO, Fla., 21 Dec. 2011. API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:ATNY), a provider of electronic systems, subsystems, RF, and secure solutions for the defense, aerospace, and commercial industries, has received a $1.4 million order for precision position sensors to be used in air-to-surface missiles. API's RF Solutions division won the order from a Fortune 100 defense contractor.

Lockheed Martin delivers surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance system to U.S. Air Force

DENVER, Dec. 7, 2011. An airborne signals intelligence system configured specifically for the newest C-130J aircraft has been delivered to the U.S. Air Force by Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT].  The system, which is part of the Senior Scout program that enables C-130 aircraft to be used for tactical signals intelligence and reconnaissance, will undergo acceptance testing in December.

Navy orders seven P-8A Poseidon advanced maritime patrol jets from Boeing in $1.4 billion contract

The U.S. Navy ordered seven P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine warfare (ASW) maritime patrol jets from the Boeing Co. in Seattle Thursday as Navy leaders continue their efforts to upgrade the service's long-rang ASW and maritime patrol capability by replacing the venerable P-3 Orion turboprop with P-8A -- a Navy version of the Boeing 737 passenger jetliner. Officials of the Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md., awarded a $1.38 billion contract to Boeing to procure seven P-8A multi-mission maritime aircraft (MMA) under terms of an advanced acquisition low-rate initial production II contract.

Electronics manufacturing to grow 10.2 percent this year in North America after 2010 market turnaround

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., 28 Oct. 2011. The global market for electronics manufacturing returned to growth in 2010 after economic setbacks in 2009, and should grow this year by 14.8 percent throughout the world, and 10.2 percent in North America, according to a study by the IPC -- Association Connecting Electronics Industries -- in Bannockburn, Ill. The study, entitled 2010-2011 Analysis and Forecast for the EMS Industry, includes forecasts through 2015 from New Venture Research Corp. (NVR) in Nevada City, Calif.

General Dynamics wins $1.8 Billion for Construction of Two Zumwalt-class DDG-1000 Destroyers

Bath Iron WorksBATH, Maine, 16 Sept. 2011. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), won from the U. S. Navy a $1.8 billion contract to construct the next two ships in the Zumwalt-class program: the DDG 1001 and DDG 1002. DDG 1001 is more than 50 percent complete and scheduled to be delivered in December 2015, whereas the DDG 1002 is scheduled to be delivered in February 2018.
