Exelis boosts airport networking know-how with acquisition of Barco Orthogon
McLEAN, Va., 11 Aug. 2014. 2014 Leaders of aerospace and defense contractor Exelis in McLean, Va., are boosting their company's expertise in commercial aviation networks their acquisition of Barco Orthogon, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barco NV in Bremen, Germany.
Exelis officials announced they have completed the acquisition of Barco Orthogon, which provides applications for air traffic flow management and decision-making to airport operators and air navigation service providers.
Orthogon will become part of the Information Systems division within Exelis. “As demand for air travel increases over the coming decades Orthogon’s focus is to deliver total airport optimization solutions,” says Frank Köhne, Orthogon's chief executive officer and managing director.
Orthogon specializes in queue management and traffic optimization that enable airport operators, air navigation specialists, and airlines to work together to manage aircraft at, approaching, or departing airports.
Orthogon’s applications also predict traffic demand on runways to help airlines and aircraft ground-support personnel plan for different workloads. Orthogon products are in use at busy airports in Doha, Qatar; Hong Kong; Istanbul; London; and Singapore, company officials say.
