Rugged intelligent power control device for vetronics and avionics introduced by DDC

BOHEMIA, N.Y., 19 Oct. 2012. Data Device Corp. (DDC) in Bohemia, N.Y., is introducing the RP-20S1X 28-volt DC family of stackable, configurable power distribution units (PDUs) for military ground vehicles, large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and manned aircraft.

These high-power solid-state power controllers (SSPCs) are designed to replace electromechanical circuit breaker power electronics and power switches, and can provide a digital interface for networked power control on aircraft and land vehicles.

The intelligent power control devices provide four independent 75-amp load channels (300 amp total current capability) to distribute and control power to four independent subsystems.

The PDUs offer channel paralleling for high current loads, and feature independent remote control of individual channels and groups. The rugged PDUs are available with MIL-DTL-38999 connectors or power stud interfaces and are tested to IP-67, MIL-STD-1275D, MIL-STD-461E, and MIL-STD-810F.

Benefits include reliable solid-state high current load control; remote control via J1939 CAN Bus or RS-485; diagnostic and prognostic data (voltage, current, and temperature); and automated power control.

DDC's solid-state power controllers provide intelligent power management features such as over-current protection, programmability, load monitoring, and network control to simplify vehicle power management.

DDC's SSPCs provide size, weight, and power (SWaP) savings, with high reliability and long life compared to electromechanical circuit breakers and relays.
