Sealed rotary switch for harsh-environment handheld devices introduced by Grayhill

LA GRANGE, Ill., 18 Oct. 2013. Grayhill Inc. in La Grange, Ill., is introducing the 77 series small and sealed rotary switch for military handheld radios, night vision goggles, laser aiming devices, and other handheld equipment that must operate in harsh outdoor environments.

The rotary switch requires less than a quarter inch behind panel, and it is MIL-rated resistance to moisture, sand, and dust. This switch is available from Peerless Electronics Inc. in Bethpage, N.Y.

The 77 series has a diameter that measures 0.5 inches and it requires 0.18 inches of clearance, making it one of the smallest rotary available with this level of seal, Grayhill officials say.

These devices can operate in driving rain, swirling dust storms, and other harsh conditions. Grayhill's 77 series rotary switches have endured rigorous testing to confirm they meet military specified standards for resistance to moisture, salt spray, underwater immersion, sand, and dust.

The 77 series is available with or without a process seal or a shaft and panel seal. It can switch to 10 positions in single pole configuration or to five positions in a double pole configuration. The 77 series can be ordered with continuous rotation or a fixed stop. The contacts are non-shorting, wiping contacts.
