The appliance is powered by the next generation Intel Atom processor C2000 with as many as eight cores, Intel Streaming SIMD extensions (Intel SSE), and optional Intel QuickAssist Technology. The Intel Atom processor C2000 family was designed with cryptographic hardware acceleration for networking and communication workloads.

The rugged computing appliance has as much as 32 gigabytes of dual-channel DDR3/L 1333/1600 MHz system memory; as many as 16 Gigabit Ethernet Copper ports via PCI Express x4/x1; as many as eight optional fiber ports; and optional Intel QuickAssist technology for cryptographic hardware acceleration.

The unit supports four DDR3 1333/1600 MHz unbuffered ECC or non-ECC DIMM sockets to 32 gigabytes of memory and provides 2.5- and 3.5-inch SATA 3.0 6-gigabit-per-second hard drives, plus CompactFlash.

For enhanced network security the PL-80500 can be equipped with Intel Atom processors C2000 with Intel Quick Assist technology for additional hardware-level cryptographic acceleration. Resource intensive security operations are offloaded from the CPU.
