Scalable rugged server for military and aerospace applications introduced by Themis

FREMONT, Calif., 20 Nov. 2015. Themis Computer in Fremont, Calif., is introducing the Hyper-Unity all-flash hyper-converged, scalable rugged server computer infrastructure for compute-intensive military and aerospace virtualized rackmount applications.

The Hyper-Unit features the Atlantis USX, and integrates four ruggedized, eight-drive, RES-XR5-1U rack mounted servers, a high-speed, 12-port Mellanox Infiniband switch, and Atlantis USX software-defined storage.

Hyper-Unity is a turn-key, mil-spec, SWAP-optimized, hyper-converged infrastructure platform, to deliver all-flash performance for virtualized applications, at less than half the cost of traditional storage or other hyper-converged platforms, Themis officials say.

Hyper-Unity delivers the performance of an all-flash array in a four-server cluster. Atlantis USX software performs in-memory, in-line deduplication and compression, before data is written to storage, leading to low latencies, high IOPS, and low storage and network traffic.

The rugged server can operate in demanding environments, and where size, weight, and power (SWAP) is an important consideration. It enables enterprises to scale out in small, modular units and grow their compute and storage resources in balance.

The system has four RES-XR5-1U, eight drive servers with as many as two E5-2600 V3 series Intel Xeon processors, each with as many as 14 cores per socket and as much as 512 gigabytes of DDR4 ECC DIMMs.

Its base cluster has 4.8 terabytes of SSD raw capacity for 12 terabytes effective storage capacity. The rugged server meets MIL-STD-810G, MIL-S-901D, and MIL-STD-167-1.
