Analog Devices wins platinum award for AD9371 RF transceiver for military communications

NASHUA, N.H., 6 Dec. 2016. Advanced RF and microwave experts at Analog Devices Inc. in Norwood, Mass., have received a platinum award in the 2016 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Technology Innovation Awards for the company's AD9371 RF transceiver for military communications systems.

Advanced RF and microwave experts at Analog Devices Inc. in Norwood, Mass., have received a platinum award in the 2016 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Technology Innovation Awards for the company's AD9371 RF transceiver for military communications systems.

The award to the Analog Devices AD9371 RF transceiver is part of the top of three tiers of this year's Technology Innovation Awards. The top award level is platinum, the middle tier is gold, and the third tier is silver.

Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace made awards to company entries that offer solutions to difficult aerospace and defense electronics design challenges. The awards were presented on 14 Nov. 2016.

The AD9371 RF transceiver from Analog Devices is a wideband RF transceiver that helps reduce radio size, weight, and power (SWaP) for military communications systems. It lends itself to improved spectral efficiency, range, and higher levels of RF performance to combat increasing signal interference.

Applications include wide-bandwidth military satellite communication systems, long-range, high-definition video links in unmanned aerial vehicles, spectrum monitoring, and small-form-factor multiband cellular base stations.

The AD9371 system-on-chip has an RF tuning range of 300 MHz to 6 GHz, 100-MHz signal bandwidth, and power consumption of less than 5 Watts under standard operating conditions. It replaces or eliminates as many as 20 discrete radio components and can be used as a common design platform across several applications and standards to help designers move their radio designs from concept to creation while increasing R&D efficiency and reducing product time-to-market, company officials say.

The AD9371 helps with radio design at the circuit, architecture, system and software levels to help designers simplify and accelerate radio development across a range of aerospace and defense electronics applications.

Existing solutions have not kept pace with the rapidly evolving radio environment, where development times are slowing significantly, workable frequency plans are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and interference levels are at an all-time high, company officials say.

Where other solutions have failed to address these issues, the AD9371 is supported by Analog Devicesf new RadioVerse technology and design ecosystem, which provides radio designers with integrated transceiver technologies, a robust design environment, and market-specific technical expertise to move their radios from concept to creation quickly.
