TUALATIN, Ore. – VersaLogic Corp. in Tualatin, Ore., is introducing the rugged E4 Ethernet Over FiberMini PCI Express expansion module for aerospace and defense embedded computing systems.
Ethernet over fiber offers a dependable and secure Ethernet connection that operates over a longer distance than copper. Fiber optic cables have no electromagnetic signature, making them difficult to tap compared to wired connections.
VersaLogic’s Ethernet Over Fiber Mini PCI Express enables cable runs five times longer than Ethernet over copper; protects against external electromagnetic interference and electrical surges; an industrial temperature rating or -40 to 85 degrees Celsius; and 1 gigabit per second speed with full duplex support. The rugged E4 module provides a standardized way to add a bi-directional gigabit channel of Ethernet over fiber.
Using latching multi-mode LC type connectors, the E4 can transmit and receive data up to 550 meters, and its small format fits on an embedded computer board. Compatible with a variety of popular x86 operating systems including Windows, Windows Embedded, and Linux, the E4 uses standard Ethernet software drivers.
