UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., 3 Nov. 2016. Pentek Inc. in Upper Saddle River, N.J., is introducing the Jade family of switched mezzanine card (XMC) embedded computing modules for digital signal processing (DSP) in radar, communications, and data acquisition applications.

Jade is based on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for modulation and demodulation, encoding and decoding, encryption and decryption, and channelization of the signals between transmission and reception. For applications that do not need large DSP resources or logic, a lower-cost FPGA can be installed.

The first product using the Jade architecture is the 71861 XMC module with four 200 MHz A/D channels and programmable multiband digital downconverters (DDCs). As with all Jade products, the model 71861 is based on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA family with FPGA choices to match price, power and processing performance needs. In addition to XMC, this product also is available in PCI Express, 3U & 6U VPX, AMC, and 3U & 6U CompactPCI form factors, with versions for commercial and rugged environments.

The Jade architecture supports an optional 5-gigabyte bank of DDR4 SDRAM memory for user-installed IP. The board has a Gen.3 x8 PCI Express interface and eight additional gigabit serial lanes and LVDS general purpose I/O for custom solutions.

The FPGA has access to all data and control paths, enabling factory-installed functions including data multiplexing, channel selection, data packing, gating, triggering and memory control. The Jade architecture organizes the FPGA as a container for data processing applications where each function exists as an intellectual property (IP) module.

The Navigator Design Suite consists of the Navigator FPGA Design Kit (FDK) for integrating custom IP into Pentek sourced designs and Navigator board support package (BSP) for creating host applications.
