Gulf Air switches to high-gain SATCOM antenna
Engineers at Gulf Air in Bahrain, needed a low-maintenance flight management system for their Airbus A330-200 fleet.
They found their answer with the CMA-2102 High Gain Satcom Antenna from Canadian Marconi Co. in Kanata, Ontario.
Gulf Air switched to the CMA-2102 because of its "high performance and technical superiority," says A. Karim Alawadhi, Gulf Air technical products manager. "The Canadian Marconi Satcom antenna provides easy maintenance and fewer spares. It is low in weight and offers great flexibility for future needs."
The Canadian Marconi high-gain antenna`s top-mounted technology and architecture eliminate multipath interference and enable simple installation, claim Canadian Marconi officials. The system operates with the Inmarsat Aero-H satellite communications service and is the system of choice by operators of Boeing and Airbus wide-bodied aircraft, providing operational data information to crew, and voice and fax communications services to passengers, company officials say.
The CMA-2102 client list totals approximately 40 airlines as well as charter and cargo carriers. The six units ordered by Gulf Air will replace the competitor system previously selected by the company and will be delivered this month. - J.M.
