Designers at Science Applications International Corp. in San Diego are increasing their use of commercially available hardware and software items as they continue delivering the Lightweight Computer Unit (LCU) to the U.S. Army. The LCU version 2 consists of computers, peripherals, tactical communications interface modules, special-purpose boards, software, cables, and technical assistance. The commercially available equipment SAIC designers use in the LCU program will be ruggedized to meet military requirements. In charge of the program is the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J. - J.K.
