ROCHESTER, N.Y., 28 February 2005. Performance Technologies today announced that Redstone Arsenal is using the company's communications hardware and software in a time-sensitive database application designed for the United States military.

Redstone Arsenal is using Performance Technologies' PCI334A Communications Adapter and integrated X.25 Protocol Software in a database application that enables all branches of the U.S. armed forces to draw information from a common source.

"The information in this database is tactical, meaning it reflects instantaneous conditions on the battlefield, rather than statistical data. The data is time-sensitive and must reach users quickly," said Joel Eakens, senior programmer at Redstone Arsenal. "It is critical that the database maintain compatibility with all of the equipment deployed in the field. Performance Technologies is able to provide the compatibility necessary to ensure this database is continually in operation."

Performance Technologies' PCI334A Intelligent Synchronous WAN Communications Adapter and integrated X.25 Protocol Software provide four high performance synchronous/serial channels for WAN connectivity. The adapter is ideally suited for use within high speed communication devices where accuracy and reliability of data are critical.

"Prior to the creation of this database, each branch of the U.S. military was drawing upon different sources for data. This database ensures that all branches are receiving the same up-to-date information needed to perform in the field," said Jean Pierre Filion, vice president of worldwide sales for Performance Technologies. "We are realizing more and more interest from the military market, and we continue to design standards-based, high availability products to fit this important niche."

Redstone Arsenal has served for more than 40 years as the Army's center for missile and rocket programs. It is responsible for researching, developing, testing, purchasing, repairing and maintaining the high technology weapons used by American soldiers.

Redstone Arsenal, home to the Army's Aviation and Missile Command and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, was established in 1941 by the U.S. Army as a chemical munitions manufacturing and storage plant. Over 60 different organizations and 24,000 employees now call this federal installation "home." Redstone Arsenal covers nearly 38,000 acres, including 14,000 acres of test ranges. With 2,000 facilities, more than 13 million square feet of administrative floor space, and over 450 housing units, it would cost $3.5 billion to replace the arsenal's present infrastructure. The Redstone Arsenal has played a significant role in our national defense for over 60 years. During World War II, Redstone Arsenal earned a reputation for excellence. Today, as it has throughout its history, "Team Redstone" continues to uphold that tradition of excellence.
