ST. LOUIS, Mo., 8 March 2005. LaBarge, Inc. has been awarded a contract valued at $3.2 million by L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems.
LaBarge will manufacture electronic equipment for an airline checked-baggage screening system that uses X-rays to detect the presence of explosives or other contraband. The agreement is in addition to a contract L-3 awarded the company last fall.
The equipment LaBarge manufactures is used in an X-ray screening system that is deployed at key international airports to automatically scan checked baggage for the presence of explosives that, if allowed inside the hull of an aircraft, could threaten the safety of airline passengers. The system also has been adapted for a U.S. rail passenger baggage screening pilot program.
LaBarge will perform the work at its Huntsville, Ark., facility. The company anticipates production to continue through December 2006.
