CHINA LAKE, Calif., 29 Aug. 2005. U.S. Navy leaders are scheduling an industry briefing of the Low-Cost Guided Imaging Rocket project for 8 a.m Sept. 28 in China Lake, Calif.

The briefing, which is to wind up at 4 p.m. that day, will be at the Mitchelson Laboratory, Conference Room 1000D, at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake.

The Low-Cost Guided Imaging Rocket project -- better known as LOGIR -- is a technology demonstration that consists of a helicopter launch platform with its associated targeting system, a smart launcher, and guided precision LOGIR weapons.

The weapon consists of a guidance and control section mated to a 2.75-inch Hydra-70 rocket motor with a telemetry system in place of M151 warhead. The guidance system provides the inertial midcourse guidance with imaging infrared terminal homing.

The system provides dramatically improved range and very short target engagement timelines to reduce pilot exposure, Navy officials say. It does so at a cost that permits adequate procurement for use in the field as well as for training.

The LOGIR briefing is to tell the defense industry about the projects accomplishments, to improve industry understanding of the government technology efforts, and get industry comments on the LOGIR demonstration project.

Navy officials say LOGIR industry meets will be scheduled quarterly to disseminate project data and discuss the project further. The Sept. 28 meeting is unclassified, yet is limited to U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) personnel and DOD contractors only.

Those who wish to attend must have a valid visit request on file with Naval Air Warfare Center China Lake security personnel. Submit visit request data no later than Sept. 14, by phone at 760-939-3160, or by fax at 760-939-3996.
