Lockheed Martin wins $49.9 million production contract to deliver target sight system for Marine Corps Cobra attack helicopter

Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) won from the Naval Surface Warfare Center a $49.9 million follow-on production contract to continue delivery of the Target Sight System (TSS) for the U.S. Marine Corps AH-1Z Cobra attack helicopter. The TSS--a multi-sensor, electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) fire control system (AN/AAQ-30)—incorporates a large-aperture midwave forward-looking infrared (FLIR) sensor with advanced image processing, color TV camera, laser designator/rangefinder with eyesafe mode, and on-gimbal inertial measurement unit into a stabilized turret.The system’s sensors help provide aviators with superior imagery. Its highly stabilized sensor suite is tailored specifically to the AH-1Z platform. Lockheed Martin officials expect production—handled at the company’s Ocala and Orlando, Fla., facilities—to continue through 2018. Lockheed Martin's TSS provides AH-1Z aviators with a system they can rely on to effectively support troops on the ground. TSS delivers precise targeting and accurate weapons delivery, while reducing operator workload," says Joseph Butera, senior program manager of airborne systems in Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control business.
