The Target Sight System (TSS) follow-on production units were delivered by officials at Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] for the U.S. Marine Corps' AH-1Z Cobra attack helicopter. Lockheed Martin engineers upgraded the software to add targeting capability on the TSS units. The system is a multi-sensor fire control system designed for the AH-1Z helicopter. It integrates sensors to give pilots the ability to acquire, track, and designate targets.Included among the sensor suite is a color video display, laser designator, and a third-generation, mid-wave, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) sensor armed with advanced image processing.Additional targeting capabilities include refined geo-location accuracy, a new target sizing function, and weapon alignment. Initial operating capability for the Cobra attack helicopter occurred earlier this year.
