ITT awarded Army SWIR contract to develop night-vision technology

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., 21 Feb. 2008. Alion Science and Technology, on behalf of the U.S. Army RDECOM CERDEC Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate, has awarded the night vision division of ITT Corporation a contract to develop next-generation night vision technology. The contract funds engineering and initial prototypes of helmet-mounted systems that will combine image intensified (I2), short-wave infrared (SWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) imagery for display to the user.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., 21 Feb. 2008. Alion Science and Technology, on behalf of the U.S. Army RDECOM CERDEC Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate, has awarded the night vision division of ITT Corporation a contract to develop next-generation night vision technology.

The contract funds engineering and initial prototypes of helmet-mounted systems that will combine image intensified (I2), short-wave infrared (SWIR), and long-wave infrared (LWIR) imagery. SWIR technology operates at wavelengths between visible/near infrared and long-wave infrared.
