WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., 12 Aug. 2009. RELM Wireless Corp. won an order totaling $1.8 million from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for the company's new P25 KNG digital radio products and accessories. Company executives anticipate the order to be fulfilled during the third quarter of 2009.
APCO Project 25 (P25) requires interoperability among compliant equipment regardless of the manufacturer. It was established by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials and is approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The shift toward interoperability gained momentum as a result of significant communications failures during events such as the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina, says a RELM representative.
