U.S. Army places $17.6 million order for Harris Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) handheld radios

    ROCHESTER, N.Y, 24 July 2010. Harris Corp. (NYSE:HRS) won a $17.6 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense for Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radio systems and accessories. The order was awarded by the Joint Program Executive Office of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) on behalf of the U.S. Army.

(NYSE:HRS) won a $17.6 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense for Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radio systems and accessories. The order was awarded by the Joint Program Executive Office of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) on behalf of the U.S. Army. The Army is acquiring the AN/PRC-152(C) to provide soldiers with advanced handheld communications capabilities for portable line-of-sight and beyond line-of-sight applications. The radio also serves as the dismountable transceiver in the AN/VRC-110 vehicular amplifier adapter system. The multiband, multimission AN/PRC-152(C) is the most widely-fielded JTRS-approved handheld radio with more than 100,000 units deployed, Harris officials say. "The AN/PRC-152 offers the complete range of tactical handheld communications requirements for users around the world," says Steve Marschilok, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "As a software-defined radio, the AN/PRC-152(C) can also evolve to meet ever-changing mission needs." The Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) was developed by Harris following the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Enterprise Business Model and operates on the JTRS Software Communications Architecture. By adhering to the DoD's open-standards approach to radio technology, Harris Falcon III tactical radios and related systems give customers a future-focused platform that easily integrates pre-planned upgrades and new capabilities while offering compatibility with legacy radios.
