Barix Delivers IP voice communications to CAE UK for military training exercises
ZURICH, Switzerland, 19 July 2007. Barix AG in Zurich, Switzerland, is implementing a custom multi-channel voice communications system using Barix Annuncicom IP intercom technology for CAE UK in Burgess Hill, England.
CAE, headquartered in Canada, provides simulation and modeling technologies and integrated training services for civil aviation and defense applications. CAE's facility in Burgess Hill is part of the company's Military Simulation and Training division, which develops and supports land-based training systems for armies worldwide and provides a range of training support services for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence.
The Barix solution is part of an upgrade to a gunnery trainer system. The Annuncicom IP intercom technology provides CAE UK with several channels of two-way voice communications using IP links. The Barix hardware, a modular, "board-level" version of the standard devices, is mounted into custom enclosures designed by AB Precision of Bournemouth, England, and integrated with analog controls to simulate a generic communications box.
"The Barix Annuncicom technology allows us to use a commercial off the shelf, low-cost IP voice communications system for trainees and instructors in Warrior vehicle gunnery training that we can easily use again on future projects," says Paul Schooley, Hardware Lead Engineer at CAE UK. "The flexibility of the Barix solution enables us to leverage our existing Ethernet infrastructure for voice communications instead of implementing a costly new analogue system."
Barix Annuncicom devices are for deployment over standard IP or Ethernet connections to several locations and can connect directly to a PC, or function autonomously with other Barix products for a PC-FREE solution. Professional applications include live voice over IP (paging, telephone, or automated announcements), intercom functionality, music transmission/distribution, radio broadcasting/EAS applications, access control, campus/building security, and general alarming.
