Saab Bofors Dynamics AB engineers Karlskoga, Sweden, needed a secure, high-reliability platform on which to develop a next-generation missile system, the RBS15 fire-and-forget, surface-to-surface missile system.

They found their solution-a combination of the Integrity real-time operating system (RTOS), networking middleware, and AdaMulti integrated development environment (IDE)-at Green Hills Software Inc. in Santa Barbara, Calif.

“Reliability was crucial to the Saab Bofors Dynamics team and a major reason for choosing solutions from Green Hills Software,” Pontus Björklund, manager of software architecture and platform at Saab, says. “Saab looks for rigorous conformance with all applicable certification schemes, as well as a firm commitment to long-term cooperation to support preplanned product improvement throughout the lifetime of its projects, including RBS15.”

Each of the computer systems within the RBS15 project has unique requirements. The Integrity RTOS and Ada 95 language-based AdaMulti IDE for Bare Board provides the Saab Bofors Dynamics team a full suite of software development tools for mission-critical embedded systems. Green Hills Software is also providing protocols for high-reliability networking for the control and monitoring of RBS15 units in the field.
