Engineers at Green Hills Software of Santa Barbara, Calif., are unveiling a software development tool for the Hitachi SH-4 superscalar RISC processor. The tool is based on the Green Hills Multi development environment, which consists of optimizing C and C++ compilers, an SH4 assembler and linker, and the SIM SH4 instruction set simulator. The SH-4 RISC processor, which targets embedded systems, has 64-bit data paths, peak performance of 360 million instructions per second, and 1.4 billion floating point operations per second at 200 MHz. It also has 8 kilobytes of instruction cache, 16 kilobytes of data cache, and a 64-entry memory management unit. For more information on the software tool, contact Tamara Calzi at Green Hills by phone at 805-965-6044. - J.K.
