The Skychannel 320-megabyte-per-second, 64-bit packet bus from Sky Computers Inc. of Chelmsford, Mass., has received approval as an industry standard from the American National Standards Institute and from the VME International Trade Association. Skychannel, designed for high-performance communications - between mezzanine boards and motherboards, between boards, and between chassis - over the VME P2 connector, is now ANSI/VITA 10-1995. As many as 256 VME boards can connect in one Skychannel system, and when used with a Sky computer mezzanine card enables as many as 4,096 PowerPC, SHARC, or Intel i860 processors to work together.
