Engineers at EDO Corp. needed servers for the Joint Enhanced Core Communications System (JECCS) they were building for the U.S. Marine Corps. They found a solution in the CIS100X from Crystal Group Inc., Hiawatha, Iowa.
The JECCS system is a telecommunications system that allows deployed military personnel to establish voice, video, and data network connectivity when switching from land and sea. Its primary mission is to smooth out the transition period units experience when information is being switched from sea to land coordinates (and vice versa).
The JECCS system will use Crystal’s CIS100X mobile network server in the data networks. Each CIS100X will be housed in an S-788 shelter, which is then mounted on an M1097 Humvee, a heavy variant cargo and troop carrier.
Each 1U-size, 31-pound rackmount server uses two Intel Xeon 3-Gigahertz processors with 1 gigabyte of SDRAM storage. For more information, see www.crystalpc.com.
