Xeon-D embedded computing 3U VPX board for battlefield computing introduced by Kontron
Sept. 1, 2015
POWAY, Calif., 1 Sept. 2015. Kontron in Poway, Calif., is introducing the VX3058 3U VPX single-board computer based on the eight-core version of the Intel Xeon-D embedded computing processor architecture for demanding military server and other high performance embedded computing (HPEC) applications.
The VX3058 brings server-class computing capabilities to the battlefield with its Dual-10 Gigabit Ethernet, high bandwidth PCI Express 3.0, and high-speed DDR4 memory. The embedded computing board is ruggedized for harsh environments that require small size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C).
The VX3058 provides digital signal processing (DSP) performance to demanding uses like virtual machine architectures that can take advantage of the extensive capital and operational efficiencies provided by isolated workloads configured to share common resources dynamically.
The Kontron VX3058 provides mezzanine options for Express Mezzanine Card (XMC), storage, graphics, M.2, and I/O. The M.2 interface can be used for storage or for integration of customized modules. Front I/O module options are selectable for DVI/HDMI, Ethernet, or other interfaces.

The Kontron VxFabric provides an API that extends the TCP/IP protocol over the PCI Express infrastructure. When combined with Kontron's advanced switch technologies to increase I/O bandwidth. The Kontron VX3058 is pin compatible with the company's VX3044 3U VPX board.
Options include a shelf manager for centralized health management, sequenced system power-up and temperature/power/performance management as well as power-on built-in test (PBIT) for board and system diagnosis.
